Well, shit, man. $1.8m for some Yeezy 1 samples...Who in their right mind could have predicted this?
I suppose I can understand OG Player Exclusive, Game-Worn Jordans selling for half a million, but...my god.
If it makes you feel any better, it wasn’t a single buyer - it was a ‘sneaker investing platform’ called ‘Rares’. It looks like their goal was to spend as much money as possible on a pair of shoes so that they could get all kinds of free marketing and publicity to go along with it...I bet their CFO said something like ‘let’s take $2m of our seed funding and see if we can make as much of a scene as possible’. if you check out their site, you can ‘reserve your spot’ to ‘own a piece of the world’s most valuable’ shoe’. Bleh. I bought into the @withotis thing a few years back...the ‘fractional ownership’ of streetwear/art/sneakers...I made a couple of purchases of shares and kinda forgot I had ‘em...I think I bought some of the Jeff Staple collection and maybe some older Jordan collection...I don’t really remember. Maybe I’ll take a look to see if they’re worth anything at this point.
The whole idea of buying ‘fractional ownership’ of SNEAKERS is way outside of my wheelhouse. I’ve toyed with the idea, sure. But...at $1.8m. That’s a lot of goddam shares. And...I’m sure when I was a kid I would have had no problem going halfsies with a friend who shared my size. But...that never happened. But I really don’t even know what to think. Truth be told, I am a bit *tired* of the fuckery, tho...like it’s just so hard to keep up with and I really don’t find it all that interesting. Just throwing money at something doesn’t make it interesting. None of it seems to be about sneakers any more it all just seems to be about marketing. All the money in the world ain’t buyin’ taste.
Anyway...back to the question...would you rather have 33.67 bitcoins or THIS pair of Yeezys?
