This is SUPER old news - it’s so old that it can only be considered ‘news’ by someone looking at historical texts - but back in 2016
@npdmattpowell_ (known sneaker industry numbers guy) broke down Nike’s earnings into layman’s terms: He calculated that Nike was selling 25 pairs of shoes PER SECOND. And at the time - it looked like Adidas was selling close to half that amount (12-13 pairs per second - remember the ZX Flux and NMDs?) and Under Armour significantly less (2 pairs per second - when all anyone could talk about was their partnership with Steph).
The sneaker market has grown a bit since that calculation first surfaced - (it was $9bn back then, closer to $11bn now)...and...obviously there are issues with that calculation...most notably it doesn’t account for clothing or other revenue sources - but it’s a mind boggling number...so mind boggling, in fact, that they’ve probably sold close to 750 pairs in the time it’s taken you to get this far in my post.
Could you imagine the scale of Nike’s operation if they’re selling that much? It’s incomprehensible for me to even consider…the vastness of these factories and these storage facilities and these manufacturing partners and the retail stores and...my god smh.
Anyway, not really making a point here, I just thought it was super interesting. What do you think? Accurate or not?
