The post I made the other day...I feel like it went over everyone’s head. And I expected it to...
I put it out there as a bit of a ‘teaser’ so y’all could catch a peek of what’s been going on in my head…
First and foremost...it’s a digital representation of my physical card of one of Nike’s very FIRST skateboard shoes - the ‘Snak’. Not sure if y’all remember...but Nike’s first foray into Skateboarding was dismal (at best). Take a look at the first 6 cards of the #DunkyDunk set and tell me if any of those shoes are memorable (save the name ‘Choad’)...they’re horrendous. And I remember the first time I saw them in stores and I remember specifically thinking ‘Nike should stick to Basketball - these look like clown shoes.’ Why did I include them? So y’all remember that Nike SB ISN’T ALWAYS ABOUT DUNKS.
Now the clip...it’s this thing I have been working on (with help) - the idea that I could actually animate the thinking behind each of the cards in this set…and lemme tell you, some of these are some bangers.
Come to find out - the world is kinda going wild over digital collectibles right now. I dunno if y’all been following this @nba_topshot thing, but they basically sell ‘digital (moments turned into) collectibles’ that exist on their own blockchain and buyers trade and sell and flip on their marketplace. I know the ‘blockchain’ conversation is sticky and it’s heavy and it’s very complicated, but the point is - people are finding ALL kinds of value in digital collectibles. NBA Top Shot started up in like June of 2020 and are already at some kind of multi-billion dollar valuation...several of these 10-15 second clips of NBA players playing basketball are selling for thousands of dollars: for a clip that you can look up on youtube.
It kinda had me thinking...what if I could somehow make these cards into digital collectibles? Instead of just a PICTURE of a digital collectible, what if we could actually tell the story of the card and the shoe behind the card?
So that’s what we’re gonna do...for those of you who don’t want to mess around with physical goods and can already see the value behind NFTs...it’s heating up.
