Supreme 96’s. Are people still like really checking for Supreme? I know they are...but how much juice did they lose?
You’d think them selling to that Carlisle group for $1bn would have slowed them down a bit - and it appeared it did...it seems that then being sold to VF for $2bn slowed down whatever momentum they might have had even more. Classic corporatization of something decidedly anti-corporate. But...we also kind of fetishize these corporations, don’t we?
I don’t know, though, I’m not in those Supreme streets any more. Are they still poppin? Are people still checkin for Supreme Oreos and Supreme Band-Aids and Supreme fishbowls? Semi-serious questions…
That brings up this sneaker of the century of the week - these Supreme 96’s. If you’re old enough to remember, you’ll remember that 96’s were never all that poppin’, and that’s kinda dope because I love it when someone like Supreme pulls an old under-the-radar model because it usually means that more GR pairs are to come. Supreme did it with AM98’s - after which a million 98 colorways came. They did it with Tailwind IV’s - after which a million Tailwind IV’s come out. They did it with 95 Lux’s - after which they hit PRETTY deep discount. And I love it. Because it brings those silhouettes back to the market.
Although I’m not into the whole ‘clear panels’ thing, I’ll say that I’m happy the clear panel is not only the toebox (and looks minimal there). I definitely won’t be checkin for this colorway (as is), but if they come up with something a bit more interesting...I might be interested. What do y’all think? These are gonna be BRICKS IMO.
