Quite possibly one of my favorite pairs of ALL time. OF ALL TIME. Air Force 1 Mid Inside Out ‘Laser Mo’.
Back in like 2005, when these shoes came out, laser-etched Nikes was the ‘it’ thing. There’s a handful of SUPER rare laser etched sneakers, but for some reason this pair never really hit the mark for most collectors.
Personally, it’s one of my favorite pairs. I love the model, I love the color blocking, and I really love the art. Instead of a bunch of nonsensical nonsense about sneaker references, the Laser Mo prominently features a laser-etched brain on the left toebox and a laser-etched heart on the right toebox.
I just did a bit of googling and some refer to this as the ‘nature of communication’ pack. I’ve seriously never heard of these referred to as that.
There is some laser-etched writing around each leather midsole. The right - the ‘heart’ shoe says: “A story is like a path that begins and then follows a course to conclusion. Any individual sentence taken from a story can be meaningful yet together serve a greater purpose. So it is with any single statement of the line burned into this shoe. Beautiful alone yet a fraction of the big picture.”
The left - the ‘brain’ shoe says: “The universe has a story and that story is long, complex and physically connects all matter and energy living and inanimate. You and I. This line is my art. A sentence in my story. The story of one mans truth.”
I don’t remember where I got my first pair of these - it was definitely somewhere in New York, but I know I’ve come across no less than 5 pairs for less than $50/piece at thrift and consignment stores through the years. I currently have one pair (probably an 8.5/10 displayed in a #tssgrailbox) on display in my office and just got this pair back from @157restorations who re-glued the soles for me so I can wear.
In a time of mindless consumption, it’s always one of those pairs I fall back on to remember that meaningless things actually carry a lot of meaning for me (shoutout to @tshirtnyc for piecing that together).
