Not sure if any of y’all been following this #meebits stuff, but I got strangely addicted to window-shopping these little animated #nfts ...
I missed the ‘event’, but ended up learning quite a bit about it through @franalations …
Meebits were created by the same guys that created #cryptopunks - pretty much the first NFT project from a couple of years back - which have also reached ridiculous prices. Pretty sure the cheapest cryptopunk available right now, as an NFT, is going for around $70k (or 19.75 ETH). If you haven’t been following, a few of these cryptopunks will be hitting @christiesinc auction house in about a week - many expected to fetch multi-million dollar prices.
From the videos on Frans page - buyers paid a fee and as soon as the smart contract was signed, a meebit would auto-generate...something called a ‘voxel’...there were a handful out there that turned out to be SUPER rare...aliens, elephants, pigs, etc. Lots of cool looking avatars. Apparently, when you own one, you’re also given access to an OBJ file in which you can utilize the features available to it outside of the marketplace. The most obvious future use case for the figure is to use a 3D animated avatar in the NFT-heavy metaverses people seem to be going wild for...
Anyway, I took a look the other day and the first one I fell in love with - Meebit #1393 - reminded me of my favorite pics of @kingjames in his sweet #shortsuit ...the only glaring difference being the hairline and the #timberland boots the Meebit is wearing…I wanted to buy it but...I dunno...I’m not really much of a #lebron fan 😂
If you’ve got a few minutes, I’d suggest taking a look. A lot of cool stuff on @opensea
