Looks like the IG and Twitter world wants to talk about @lilnasx ’s ‘Satan’ shoes…so i guess let’s talk about it.
For those who aren’t aware, @lilnasx announced a CUSTOM Nike sneaker (ie: a sneaker NOT APPROVED BY NIKE) collaboration with @mschf … and it seems everyone (especially people in the ‘culture’ that are around my age) care a bit too much about this release…and not in a good way.
When I first saw it - my thought was it was basically the yang to yin’s ‘Jesus sneaker’ that released about a year ago. Kitchy.
I’ve owned a few of these black upper 97’s (I want to say I owned the same or a very similar base pair 10+ years ago) and, although I think it’s a cool colorway - it seems the only thing that is actually interesting (from a shoe perspective) about this custom is the liquid filled air pockets. To me, that seems like it’d add a bit of weight to the shoe that I really wouldn’t want to mess with so it’s not really my thing, but I can understand the allure of having something like that (remember the aquarium shoes from 40-year-old virgin?)
Everyone seems to be talking down on the release and acting ‘holier than thou’ in a way that not only looks like old men yelling at the clouds, but looks to be proving the point it seems @lilnasx was trying to make in the first place with the release - which, IMO, is that he received more hate from a community preaching love (Christianity) than he has anywhere else. The iconography and symbology seems a bit light…like…I’ve seen plenty of death metal T’s with the same (or worse) symbology that these same dudes complaining seem to rock with impunity.
Old men (yes, I’m an old man) love to complain about young men stuff…not really realizing or understanding that young men stuff is not FOR us. They don’t make this stuff for us. We had our time, it’s now time to move out the way and let the youngsters do what they want to do.
I’m not a fan of @lilnasx , nor do I think I have any sort of moral high ground than him or anyone else. IMO…I think dude should block out the haters and keep doin his thing…and I think all these grown-ups demonizing him need to sit back and realize these weren’t made for them.
