Look…I know my experience is not everybody’s experience. I know that the way I look at the world is vastly different from how you look at the world. For some reason, people think that I speak for their view of the world when it was never my intention to do so.
So, in my view of the world - THIS card and what it represents and actually exists as - is just as cool IF NOT COOLER than owning the actual pair of shoes it was attached to. With the state of sneaker materials degradation and the physical footprint they carry, I feel like a cut of one of these shoes is a much more practical collectible than the whole damn thing.
Obviously, to others, this kind of thing is actual sacrilege. Cutting up a historical artifact (for conveniences’ sake)? Are you nuts?
There’s gotta be a cool middle ground for the vast majority of these PEs…the super duper important pairs…need to be preserved (at any cost), but is there a better way to honor these semi-important pairs than what they’ve done above?
Top Comment: cscott_run I don't mind this as long as it's not historical shoes, first game, championship, xx point game, etc..
Was searching for something entirely unrelated yesterday when I saw the green @nike x @off____white Air Force 1 ‘mids’ available for retail on one of my favorite shops…
‘Hmmm, this doesn’t look right’
So I went searching and found, for the most part - these are available for UNDER retail.
When pics of these dropped I remember reading a lot of comments from people seeing they were going to go for the green pair so I figured they were going to be out of reach for me, but here we are…3 actual Air Force 1 x Off Whites that are UNDER retail…tbh…with the way things were going…I DEFINITELY didn’t think I’d see the day when I could have my choice of this AF1 for UNDER retail.
Did they produce too many? Do people just hate the Mid? Is it the colorways? Has the Virgil train run its course? Is Nike just doing too damn much? Or is it something else entirely?
Top Comment: dbo_81 It’s the spikes and block imo.

These are the types of headlines that make me think the whole ‘capitalist’ idea is completely a sham…like…one dude…ONE DUDE…clearly off his meds…clearly trying to stir up some sh*t…clearly out of his mind…somehow has the ability to shift the sneaker markets by hundreds of millions of dollars with a handful of (really sh*tty) statements. The amount of money Adidas claims this dude 'LOST' is more than some island nation’s GDP. Absurd.
Thing is…I’ve been finding myself a bit disgusted by Nike and their dirty marketing tricks, lately. So I’ve been paying a *bit* more attention to Adidas…not their releases…but more like their culture…and they have more of a globally inclusive culture than Nike seems to have…so…I guess…if I were to be able to ask them anything…I’d start with: How in the hell do you let ONE MAN cause THIS MUCH HAVOC TO YOUR BRAND? IMO, Adidas is going to be fine, but half a billion and literal tons of 'unsellable stock?' How can they not figure out what to do with this stuff?
I don’t know exactly what would have happened if Nike were on the business end of this debacle, but I’d venture to say that there is NO WAY IN HELL NIKE WOULD HAVE LET THIS TRANSPIRE THE WAY IT HAS TRANSPIRED. Would they?
Top Comment: lacedvet They won’t be fine without Yeezys. The only Adidas shoe anyone is buying is Sambas. Boost and NMD died

Based on some of the responses to yesterday’s post, an alternative headline could have been 'which Adidas logo should go on their gravestone?' lol
~~~~~~
Saw this 'Treziod 1' shoe a few months ago and went on a hunt for it. I knew my reaction had more to do with the logo than anything, so I started wondering why I was so drawn to the Trefoil logo in that context - this shoe looks like it was made for the Standard logo - why would they throw a Trefoil on it? Furthermore, Why is it that the logo they choose to use plays such a heavy role in how I feel about said items?
And then I saw the Treziod 2 and thought...'yeah, give me the Treziod 1'. Treziod 2 looks just like everything else Adidas puts out. There's nothing *wrong* with it, I'm just a bit tired of seeing it on EVERYTHING.
~~~~~~
On the second slide - I found this brief history of @adidas logos at @logosworldhistory while searching for a picture of the only two I really consider (the Trefoil and the Standard) and was kind of surprised to see the rest...I've never actually seen the first 3...the Trefoil (1971) is my favorite, followed by The Standard (1991), and for whatever reason the neo globe (2002) makes me think of @freddurst and Limp Bizkit.
~~~~~~
For your money, which logo are YOU going for?
Top Comment: sankofafw I am naturally drawn to the three stripes, but it is remarkable how much of a different shoe it becomes depending upon the trefoil or the three stripes.
(These aren't his actual designers but you get the idea.)
To be fully transparent - I never *fully* understood how these sneaker collaborations worked until I met someone that worked at Nike and filled me in...and...I could *still* be wrong, but this is how I understand it.
I know we'd all like to believe that MJ, Kanye, and TS design their own shoes, but the only one who actually comes close to any design work is Kanye (and possibly Pharrell?)...the other two...well...they're presented with ideas and they choose from them.
That's it.
They don't draw, design, or create sneakers.
Sometimes there are WHOLE TEAMS of people who brainstorm ideas and present them to head designers who then present them to the 'collaborator'.
Just an FYI cuz a lot of people in my comments talk about Travis like he actually designed the shoes that come out under his name...
Top Comment: shortvicthescoof this why I like Tyler the creator sm, even though a lot of his designs are hit or miss, it feels like he has (or had depending on what brand/line u look at) a lot of creative input/his actual designs on his stuff
First thought seeing these shoes: “Ooooh those are cool colors!”
Second thought: “Man people are going to only slightly lose their minds for these. There probably won’t be riots (again), but the hype is gone. They’ve already moved on to the next one.”
Third thought: “If these had a Jumpman on the heel tab would I have even stopped to take a screenshot?”
————————
The ‘Nike SB’ on the heel looks good…as good as a ‘Nike Air’? I dunno. But WAY better than the Jumpman.
———————-
Will an SB 4 release ever see the kind of social media-driven frenzied reaction that the first pair did? Or was that an outlier? Are people really that hungry for novel heel tabs?
Top Comment: dunk_and_disorderly It’s a SB release and it will be limited to way less than the usual amount of standard J4’s making them more popular than need be. Would be cool to see some creative materials like dunks so they look unique and not just another boring different colorway
Enjoy the week ahead!
Cutting the tongue off a shoe is definitely different and I could see myself collecting those type of things. Like for example the tongue off the Eminem x Jordan 4’s, or even the back part, even though I’d love to own the whole shoe, but I’ll take what I can get. Lol!
As far as the AF1 mids, I actually want the green or black pairs, they’re different and I still might get them. Jordan 1 mids I’ve had enough of those. Lol!
Adidas definitely dropped the ball on the whole Kanye thing, my favorite shoes of his are the QNTMs and 700s, now we’ll never see new pairs of those. Like what Funko did, they might burn them up, god I hope not. Lol
