I remember the first nike.com sneaker ‘release’ that I tried for...the Fire Red Jordan 4 Laser back in 2005.
I remember sitting at my Sony Laptop in my tiny apartment in Bensonhurst and me and all my buddies were chatting on AOL and checking the thread on Niketalk trying to help each other out. I want to say the shoes went live at like 7pm (on the East Coast) and I remember it kept freezing and crashing and freezing and crashing and...over the course of several hours many potential customers lost hope. I stuck with it and was ‘lucky’ enough to catch a pair in my size...the only one of my friend group who managed to cop. I received the shoes a week or so later and in the package, there was also a T-Shirt and a Hat included. Meh. I remember after it was all over...we all had plenty to say about Nike’s site. About how they needed better web developers. About how they needed a better system. About how it was a shitty experience. Blah blah blah.
At the time, I remember thinking… ‘well, if I don’t like them in person, I can make about a hundred bucks on these.’ For 5 hours of banging my head into my computer…$100 profit. I swear it sounded like a good idea at the time.
I went through a similar experience a handful of times a year...wasting the better part of a day on Nike or Kith or Adidas...all to cop some shoes I really didn’t care for (but knew I could resell). The last one I got ‘lucky’ on - Pirate Black Yeezy 350’s - is when I realized that it just wasn’t worth my time. I no longer cared. So I bought a bot...spent a couple hundred...and the shit just didn’t work. I bought some lifetime membership to it and tried it a handful of times on a handful of computers and I *still* can’t get it to work, even though I get emails for it nearly every week. I know some of y’all are super saiyan bot coppers. Y’all making a living off of scripts. Which is dope - I ain’t knockin the hustle AT ALL. Shit, I wish I could write scripts that good. But it just kinda sucks for the rest of us.
I’m curious to see how long y’all have been in the game...What was your first online release and was it worth it?
