I know there are some Lebron fans out there - what’s the consensus on these retro’s?
For me - I don’t care at all about these Lebrons. I liked the AZG1 and 2. I remember lots of dudes in NY LOVING the 4’s for their ‘originality’ (I thought they looked like leprechaun shoes). The first pair I think I purchased for retail was the Lebron 9 and I promptly returned them because the sizing was off. I tried the 11’s, too, but the shape just totally turned me off. I bought plenty of pairs on deep discount and sold them all for a profit, but I was never attached to any of these, really.
I’m wondering about the task Nike has before them with these Lebron retros.
Thing was...growing up watching Jordan...he wore like 3-5 different colorways a SEASON. So it’s easy to pinpoint games that were significant and the pairs he had on. The Infrared VI will forever be cemented in my mind as ‘the pair he wore in the 1992-93 NBA Finals’ (also the first time I watched several FULL basketball games with my dad). From what I understand, Lebron is wearing a different pair and a different colorway EVERY game. And, although that’s fun (especially from Bron’s perspective), it becomes increasingly difficult to BUILD new stories and story lines when every colorway sees only a game or even just a half.
A quick search shows that more than 120 different colorways of the Lebron 16 released last season. The Lakers played only 71 games last season. That comes out to a ratio of...I dunno...more pairs than games. How can anyone remember what ‘Bron wore when he broke this record or that record? How can a casual fan point at a single pair of 16’s making any impact whatsoever? How are they going to tell these stories in the future when the inevitable slew of retro’s come after ‘Bron retires?
