I knew I had heard the name RTFKT , I just didn’t remember where. Looked it up again and found it. ‘The X Evolutions.’
A few months ago, @rtfktstudios sold this one of one AI-generated representation of a shoe that would ultimately be cr
eated IRL (in real life) for the winner of the auction…kinda looks a bit like another one of those Jordan 1/Dunk Hi knockoffs, doesn’t it? Seems a bit more...original than a lot of those other ones we’ve been seeing...
That’s all well and good, but what sets this apart? The art on the shoe was AI generated and changed based on every bid it received...if the shoe received 10 bids (ie: ‘X’), it would see it’s ‘final evolution’, but it actually only got through 6 bids (stages). Maybe it should be called ‘The VI Evolutions.’
Anyway, bidder ‘whaleshark’ won the auction of the shoe for 22 ETH, which was worth about $13k at the time (worth closer to $30k today). Dude gets to keep the token of the shoes (to be used in a handful of other AI generated spaces), AND gets a 1 of 1 handmade pair.
Digital collectibles, y’all, digital collectibles.

Still seems gimmicky / bubbly to me. No guarantee that that shoe/token is going to be worth even 1/10th its purchase price in a month or 12 months. But I'm just being old and stubborn. I know we're just in the experimentation stage of applying NFT tech to all sorts of stuff.
