Everything culminates on May 27th...
when we get to see the print runs of @keithashore#kengriffeyjr. Card. As soon as the print run was released - a couple of hours late - the market just tanked. (FYI the actual card doesn’t have tears on it 😂)
To get an idea of the reason why - think of supply vs. demand. If there’s more supply than demand, the card is worth less than retail. If there’s more demand than the supply, the card is worth more than retail. I mean, I have no clue whatsoever, but if I were to guess, I would say there were probably around 5k TRUE collectors of these cards when I jumped in (and I’m not a TRUE collector by any means).
In the beginning - the early releases were seeing print runs of around 1k-1.5k copies. Meaning there were that many cards produced. There were a few blips (mostly due to @miketrout cards), but overall there was an average print run of about 2-3k. The highest print run up until that point was @benballer@miketrout card at about 34k. On May 27th the results for the @keithashore Griffey card print run hit 100k. Everyone and their mother was trying to buy 10-100-1000 of the Griffey’s because they thought it would be easy money.
