(3/3) Reverse Skunk Dunk purchase(s) with @snkrinvestor...what's going on?
Glory be to the Authenticators at StockX!
@snkrinvestor hit me up the other night with a couple of videos of him unboxing his purchase(s) and I must say, the shoes look pretty damn good. It was funny watching him in the videos - it totally reminded me of a (card) box break or something…gloves and knives and paper towels and nervous chatter and hands shaking and…the whole nine. I’m so happy people are comfortable sharing this stuff with me as elicits the same reaction from me. So. Again. Thanks for sharing this with me.
I asked for several pics, all of which he provided and I can’t find a tell. It’s definitely possible that I’m wrong, but I think they’re good. Someone with a keener eye might be able to call me out but I think they’re authentic. Kudos to StockX for the tough authentication and for rising above the unusual-ness of the situation to make the right call. Pics below:
I also got a shitload of comparison pics from @nisamun who has both a real pair and a fake pair. I asked ‘hey, why do you have both?’ and his response was perfect: ‘I mean they are all just shoes, if I can rock some reps, stock the retail at home and decide down the line if I want to bust them out for a special occasion or just sell them when the market is just nuts.’ How many people you know buying both? Dope.
The differences between these two pairs are pretty obvious, even to the untrained eye (fake pair on the right):
naps are a bit longer and furrier on the fakes
shade of suede is slightly darker
midsole stitching is a bit longer on the fakes
the suede is very very thin around the stamped heel serial number
The thing to keep in mind that all of these ‘trusted outlets’ fail to mention - nearly EVERY fake manufacturer has slight differences in construction and material. There might only be a handful of ‘super perfect’ rep makers, but they DO have differences. So there might be one manufacturer that has shorter naps on the suede and a lighter shade of suede. This is definitely not an indication for ALL fakes, just the fakes that we’re doing a comparison with. Keep that in mind any time you’re reading about a comparison between real and fake. Remember that.
(Again - thanks to @nisamun for the pics: Real is on the left, fake is on the right)
(In the pic below, the right is legit, left is rep. Quite the ‘comic sans’ on the red sticker, huh?)
Another thing I found to be kind of funny…in general, when we’re talking about a ‘special box’…that usually indicates that it’s a rarer box, but is that the case with this release? Not from what I can tell. Remember - there are supposedly 420 pairs in existence. How many do you think would come in the ‘special box’ for them to be considered a ‘special box’? I mean, for me, I’d think like less than a quarter of them should be in the special box for it to truly be considered ‘special.’ But, if you look closely at the print that comes in the ‘special box’, it shows an edition of /300. That leads me to assume that 300 pairs come in the special box…in that case wouldn’t the non-special box ACTUALLY be the special-er box? Things that make you go hmmmmm.

In all, I think @snkrinvestor made one hell of a comeup. He managed to snag around 1% of the total (SUPER LIMITED) stock at 40% below market value? Yeah, sign me up. You always hear about these people who happen to be at the ‘right place at the right time’ and you always think it’s a luck or a fluke, but it rarely ever is. It’s almost always someone who is putting in the work and is waiting for their time to come. Remember, this dude has been sitting on his bids for MONTHS waiting for them to come to fruition and they finally did. That’s patience. That’s setting oneself up for success. And, shit, if they do end up making it to auction at Sotheby’s in a few years - maybe he’ll let me grade them before sending them onto Jordy Gellar before the bidding starts….sneaker grading is gonna make it I swear!
Anyway…now for a bit of fun….the roll call…if you’d like to participate or know someone who has a pair but doesn’t want to participate in this ridiculous exercise in futility, fill in the google form (file upload nor your user info is NOT required so you can do it entirely anonymous if you want) and I’ll start putting them all together.
Without even having any kind of IG exposure, I’ve already received DMs and comments accounting for nearly 10 pairs. That’s almost 3% of the total supply in existence!
(serial numbers 64, 127 & 321 go to @snkrinvestor)
(serial number 394 goes to @nisamun)
(serial numbers 247 & 336 go to @desi.sneakerhead)
Tell your kids tell your wives! Let’s see how many serial numbers we can get pics of!
