(2/2) Reverse Skunk Dunk purchase(s) with @snkrinvestor...what's going on?
The mystery gets a bit deeper...
Goddam I love a good sneaker mystery.
After yesterdays email - (my FIRST substack email - 587 of y’all opened it and read it within 24 hours!!!) - I got emails, I got texts, I got comments on FB, Twitter, IG and DMs to my new IG account ( @1tostock - be sure to give that one a follow ) .
The first message came from the first guy I hit up when I’m stumped on a legit check - the owner of one of the most respected shops in the Bay Area…he texted me directly - “No chance that someone was just sitting on 3 sizes and ended up taking $3000 each when they could consign somewhere for like $4.5-$5k.” Definitely suspect.
And then I got another text from the @snkrinvestor himself…he messaged me saying that 2 of the 3 pairs passed authentication and the 3rd had yet to be authenticated. No more than 10 minutes after he sent me that message - the third had been authenticated. That means that ALL THREE PAIRS PASSED AUTHENTICATION. His guess was that all 3 pairs were sitting at StonkX (ie: OWNED by StonkX - a theory we can dive into at another time) waiting for a buyer. Interesting theory and I’ve heard this a few times but am kind of ambigious on it’s merits. We threw a few ideas back and forth and he was actually quite concerned he would end up with a pair of fakes (or two). I told him we would get to the bottom of it.
A few minutes later - I got a my FIRST EVER COMMENT ON Substack - @brodybaer said that there was a FOURTH pair that I missed that sold 4 minutes later (obviously not sold to @snkrinvestor ), but still, quite interesting.
I also got a few comments on IG post (from my NEW account) and everyone else seemed to be a bit skeptical.
And about an hour after I posted on IG, I got a message from @thenikesbmarket :
If the above is indeed true…which is ENTIRELY possible and very well could be the case…I still find it very interesting. Stranger things have certainly happened, even to me. Again, if it’s true, it looks like @snkrinvestor made a nice little come up and is now in possession of almost 1% of all the pairs in the world…probably in possession of more than 1% of all the DEADSTOCK pairs in the world, which is pretty cool.
I asked @snkrinvestor to send me pics/videos of the shoes once he receives them - he’s excited to - and I’d like to send the pics to a few guys I trust as well…just to see if we can find any tells that they might be a new batch of fakes. I’m also going to ask him to send pics of the serial numbers, which are printed on the heel of each shoe…
I tried a little experiment about 18 years ago when I first discovered Niketalk and it was kinda fun…when I got my pair of Pharrell Dunks - I immediately posted the Serial Number and asked for a roll call…a bunch of people…I want to say it was a couple hundred but it could be 1/10th that amount…responded in the thread with pics of their serial numbers but we got nowhere near the 1,050 pairs that supposedly exist(ed). (The pic below is the actual pic that I posted to the thread - and yes, I changed the laces)
Why do I want the serial numbers? Well, I’m not totally sure it matters if I don’t get my main IG account back anyway…it’s something that will only work with a lot of exposure. But this idea is - I would like to do a serial number roll call on the Reverse Skunks. A roll call to see if we can collect pics of all of the serial numbers of Reverse Skunks that exist in our network…initial thought was that it’d be pretty easy to find a pair of fakes if someone else had the same serial number, but even if they’re not fakes I think it’d be fun to see how many we could get…if I got my account back - 15k followers + the people that know and fux with me already - if everyone were to repost the roll call - how many of the 420 pairs of Reverse Skunks do you think we could account for?
